Next up in my EP story is a song called “Believe”.
In my last post I talked about daring to dream which is a great start. Once you’re there though, once you’ve taken that mental step towards a dream you have, you need to believe in yourself before you can expect to make it anywhere with that dream.
Once you Dare to Dream and begin to excitedly tell others about it, that is usually the point in time where you will encounter some resistance. Some people will 100% support your decision to go after what it is that you really want and some will try to talk you out of it. If you don’t believe in yourself, you’ll be talked out of your dream before you even take one step towards it. If you do however have the courage to be your own biggest fan, then you can respect their opinion, but will remember that it is just that; theirs not yours. They are entitled to their opinion. It doesn’t make it fact or reality though.
Many of the doubters will actually have your best intentions in mind when trying to talk you out of going after what you want. I remember when my husband and I decided to become self-employed, there were many concerned family members and friends sending us job openings and advising us to get “real jobs”. In all honesty, my husband and I were even concerned! But deep down we knew that being self-employed was what we really wanted. Had we not believed in ourselves we would have quit trying after year 1. Following your dreams sounds all glamorous, but keep in mind that it’s not all butterflies and rainbows. There’s a quote I love that says “The dream is free, but the hustle is sold separately”. Be ready to hustle.
Moral of the story is, what others say or do is a projection of their own reality. What they’ve been through. What they believe to be possible or impossible. It has nothing to do with you and what you are capable of. Our beliefs about ourselves are the single most determining factors in our success and happiness in life. Believe in yourself. Don’t quit your daydream.
